Ron Zerbe
Brother Zerbe was a student on Smith 7 when I first met him. He was a short little dude, muscular, wore glasses, and had blonde hair. I didn't know him real well, but I know he had a TV set in his room and kept it hidden from the deans. I heard that he taught school for a number of years after Moody. He was from Pennsylvania originally and ended up marrying a pretty red haired girl who worked one of the desks in Fitzwater Hall. He was an older student at Moody at the time, but I doubt if anyone really knew it. I understand that he got dementia about 20 years ago and was bed-bound. But somehow he found a miracle cure and sprung from the bed like a gazelle and walked among men like a real heathen should. However, he had a relapse, and the dementia eventually returned. I think he also got to the point where he could not speak. But the mention of an old Moody heathen he might know brought a smile to his face, his wife said. Brother Ron was a member of the Class of 1966.
Ron was actually about 70 years old. Today, Monday, February 9, 2009, Brother Ron Zerbe died.
