Looking South Into Covington from Cincinnati Across the Ohio
This is where I was born and raised until I was 18. My mother always said Covington sat down in a hole. It rests just across the river from Cincinnati on the banks of the Ohio River at the northern most part of Kentucky. It is sort of the gateway to the South with I-75 passing through it on the way to Miami. The man who wrote "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town", Haven Gillespie, was born here. The oldest high school in the state - Holmes - is here along with lots of Catholics and Germans and southern Protestant revivalistic denominations. I always said that I was going to get out of the joint and never come back. I kept my promise. But I have almost nothing but positive memories from the place that educated me well in spite of the fact that my teachers always said Kentucky was in last place education-wise.
